UNESCO Chair launches call for the 1st issue of the journal 'Aprender a Ser'
As part of the UNESCO Chair “The City that Educates and Transforms,” the call is open for the first issue of the journal Aprender a Ser: Global Citizenship, Interculturality, and Sustainability (Learning to Be), addressed to UNESCO Associated Schools in Portugal. The journal is directed by ISEC Lisboa faculty member, Isabel Baltazar, who is also the Scientific Coordinator of the UNESCO Chair. It emerges with the objective of consolidating and disseminating good educational practices inspired by the four pillars of UNESCO – Learning to Know, Learning to Do, Learning to Live Together, and Learning to Be – valuing the latter as the central axis of comprehensive and transformative education.
The first issue, under the theme “Perspectives on the City” (Olhares sobre a Cidade), invites educational communities to develop “Creative Reflections on the City that Educates and Transforms” through texts, photographs, drawings, poetry, music, or multimedia products that portray the city as a space for learning, inclusion, sustainability, and active citizenship.
The journal will be published biannually, with editions in June and December. UNESCO Schools must submit their works by January 31, 2026, to isabel.baltazar@iseclisboa.pt and catedra.unesco@iseclisboa.pt. This initiative reinforces the UNESCO Chair’s commitment to an ethical, creative, and supportive education that promotes global citizenship and sustainable development.
