“Black Territories” was the theme of the 12th edition of the Relendo Passo Fundo project

Relendo Passo Fundo, currently in its 12th edition, is an event organized by the VivA!Emau Extension Project of the Architecture and Urbanism course at the University of Passo Fundo since 2016, which is currently part of the activities articulated by the UNITWIN Network - UNESCO Chair “The City that Educates and Transforms”, led by ISEC Lisboa.

Rereading Passo Fundo Black Territories is the name of this special edition. The city has always been tensioned by disputes that have resulted in spaces of privilege and spaces of resistance, invisibilization and erasure. This Rereading brought multiple narratives and sensitivities about the spaces, through the testimonies and narratives of the black community, in each of its eight points of relevance to the constitution of the city.

In this edition, which took place on June 8, participants toured the historic and remarkable spaces of the black community, visiting the construction of the railroad (now Avenida Sete de Setembro), Praça Tamandaré and its São Miguel Pilgrimage, Chafariz da Mãe Preta, the Visconde do Rio Branco Recreational Club and the Garotos da Batuca Society.

The event is a real journey through time, reviving memories through reading, with the main aim of understanding the processes that led to the construction of the city. Relendo Passo Fundo is open to the whole community and the initiative is promoted through the social networks of the VivA!Emau Extension Project.
