The UNESCO Chair "The City that Educates and Transforms", hosted by ISEC Lisboa, took part in the 8th International Symposium on Applied Human Rights: Inclusion, Human Rights and Global Justice in Times of Systemic Crisis and Geopolitical Instability, held from 24 to 26 June 2026 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Salamanca.

On 26 June, the UNESCO Chair was represented by its Scientific Coordinator, Isabel Baltazar, who participated in the Round Table "Human Rights and Education", within Axis III – Climate Crisis, Socio-Environmental Justice and Sustainability. During the session, she delivered the presentation "The City that Educates and Transforms in Times of Uncertainty: Global Citizenship, Human Rights and Sustainability."

Her presentation highlighted the role of educating cities in promoting human rights, global citizenship, and sustainability, while addressing the challenges posed by the current context of geopolitical instability and systemic crises. The contribution reinforced the UNESCO Chair's commitment to advancing interdisciplinary dialogue and international cooperation on education, human rights, and sustainable development.

The symposium was organised by the International Seminar on the History of Contemporary Human Rights (SIHCDH), the Recognised Research Group "History of Human Rights" (GIR HDH/USAL), the Network of Human Rights Experts, Medical Doctors and Postgraduates at the University of Salamanca (REDHDPUSAL), and UNIFACS/Brazil, bringing together researchers and experts from a wide range of international institutions.
