Global Meeting for Peace in the World

The UNESCO Chair 'The Educating and Transforming City' joins the Global Meeting for Peace in the World, an international initiative that simultaneously celebrates the UN International Meditation Day (instituted in 2024 by 193 countries) and the International Day of Solidarity.

The event will take place online on Sunday, December 21, 2025, between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM (Portugal time), broadcast live via Zoom and YouTube platforms.

The Chair will be represented by its coordinator, Professor Isabel Baltazar, reinforcing the network's commitment to promoting peace, ethical coexistence, and education for social transformation.

The Global Meeting for Peace in the World is coordinated by António Fróis Rafael, founder of the 'Friends for Peace in the World' (Amigos pela Paz do Mundo), and brings together participants from Portugal, Portuguese-speaking countries, the Americas, and Europe, in a moment of global connection dedicated to peace, dialogue, and inner reconnection. The program includes:

  • 12:00 PM – Music and welcome
  • 12:10 PM – Silent, contemplative, and unifying meditation (in the tradition of each participant)
  • 12:30 PM – Sharing of experiences
  • 1:00 PM – Closing and online conviviality

This hour of sharing will feature the collaboration of various personalities and institutions committed to education for peace, including:

  • Prof. Helena Águeda Marujo (UNESCO Chair in Education for Sustainable Global Peace, University of Lisbon)
  • Prof. Isabel Baltazar (UNESCO Chair 'The Educating and Transforming City')
  • Martim Hall (Meditation Nucleus of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon)
  • Christian Abba Hur (Brazil), musician and Ambassador for Peace
  • Representatives from UNIPAZ Brazil, environmental activists, yoga teachers, meditation communities, and other partners dedicated to building cultures of peace.

The Chair invites the entire academic community and partners to join this symbolic hour of global union. Together, we celebrate peace, solidarity, and the transformative power of education.

The initiative is free and open to all. It aims to foster a space for encounter, reflection, and hope — central values for the Chair's mission.
