Brasília, old myths under a discourse of modernity.
Speaker: Savio Tadeu Guimarães. 14 October 2025 - 3:40 p.m. (BR) / 7:40 p.m. (PT).
The main theme of this study is the city of Brasília, Brazil's federal capital, and its analysis based on its complexities and contradictions, especially as a city known for its discourse of modernity that guided the thinking and creations of the first half of the 20th century, legitimised with the help of references from the historical fields of Art and Religion (as in the great founding narratives of America), in addition to addressing some of its contradictions and dilemmas that have arisen with the dynamic history to which, like any city, it has been subjected since its creation. For this approach, the methodological procedure adopted was based on primary documentary sources, in addition to relevant national and international bibliography. The focus of the research process proposed here was linked, above all, to Discourse Analysis, which allows for an excellent explanation of the nuances present in the appropriation of this city by various fields under its founding myth and its ‘modern’ parameters, both loaded with contextual coherences and contradictions – which consequently makes these discourses subject to various reflections and questions.
